Overview

The Therapy Aide - Speech Therapy provides essential support to the Speech Therapy team by escorting patients, transferring them on and off equipment, and performing patient/resident programs under supervision. The Therapy Aide also assists with maintaining the general upkeep of the department.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the feeding program under the direction of Speech-Language Pathologist.
  • Support patients in participating in classroom routine centers, including play, sensory activities, and mealtimes.
  • Assist in the distribution and return of meal trays to the food cart.
  • Participate in training programs, including Mealtime Safety and Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) Approach to Feeding.
  • Assist in maintaining the department, organizing equipment, and managing supplies.
  • Demonstrate competency in the Meditech Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system; ensure timely and appropriate documentation.
  • Participate in therapy, special, and hospital training as needed.
  • Clean therapy materials (e.g., toys, mats, feeding equipment).
  • Transport patients/residents to and from designated locations.
  • Maintain departmental inventories and supplies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children preferred.
  • Experience collaborating with other professionals at all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, understanding, and speaking English.

Education, Licensure, and Certification

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, transfer, and reposition patients safely,
  • Ability to lift, pull, carry, bend, and crouch.
