Overview

We are seeking a Respiratory Therapist Resident  to join our multidisciplinary team, in caring for medically fragile and complex pediatric patients and residents. Blythedale's Respiratory Therapy Residency Program is designed to help new graduates or respiraotry therapists with less than 12 months of experience transition from an academic settng to a profesional environment, specifically working with the pediatric patient population. This program includes professional development, clinical competency enhancement, board exam preparation, and grand round opportunities with medical staff.

The Respiratory Therapist Resident will be supervised by a New York State licensed respiratory therapist preceptor.

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the New York State licensed respiratory therapist preceptor, provide high-quality respiratory care to pediatric patients with complex medical needs.
  • Serve as a consultant to nurses, physicians, and other healthcare team members.
  • Ensure that care delivery and clinical protocols reflect evidence-based practices.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Participate in ongoing departmental education and training.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) preferred.
  • New Graduates with RRT will be considered with References from at least two clinical instructors.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and handle a variable workload. 
  • Working knowledge of computerized software programs. 
  • Commitment to sign a six (6) month Residency Program (orientation) agreement and a six (6) month employment commitment agreement.
  • Ability to work night shift schedule (1900 - 0730), variable schedule, includes weekends, 2 on-call shifts per month, and rotating holidays as needed.

Education, Licensure, and Certification

  • Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited institution; Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy (BSRT) preferred. Degree transcripts required.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Hold a New York State Respiratory Therapy - Limited Permit.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications through the American Heart Association.
  • Residency Personal Statement required.
  • Cover letter required.
  • Two signed letters of recommendation from clinical faculty and/or preceptors required.

Physical Requirements

  • On feet most of day patient care/moving high pressure cylinders/equipment. 
  • Lifts supplies/equipment. 
  • Requires visual acuity and manual dexterity to maintain the airway and manually ventilate the patient during Code Blue.
