Overview

Under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor and the Director of Occupational Therapy, provides independent and professional OT services through evaluation and treatment of functional and developmental skills. Aims to achieve maximal physical and cognitive functioning in a patient’s daily life tasks and as part of their total medical care.  Conducts education and training of patient, family and related disciplines. 

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates evolving knowledge, competence and skill in pediatric occupational therapy evaluation including areas of mobility, postural control, upper extremity performance, splinting, sensory, perceptual-motor, cognitive-adaptive, feeding and self-care skills.
  • Demonstrates evolving knowledge, competence and skill in pediatric occupational therapy treatment skills including area of mobility, postural control, upper extremity performance, splinting, sensory, perceptual motor, cognitive-adaptive, feeding and self-care skills.
  • Continuously reviews therapist-patient relationships, procedures, and progress to ensure a high standard of treatment.
  • Demonstrates insight and flexibility to modify schedule in order to accommodate hospital and departmental needs.
  • Consistently meets and actively participates in clinical supervision for case management including documentation review, co-treatment, and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Receives and provides feedback professionally.

  • Effectively participates in training and supervision of level I & II students, OT aide(s) and volunteers.
  • Prepares and presents inter &/or intra-departmental in-services.

  • Completes documentation in accordance with departmental and hospital policies for content and timeliness.
  • Presents professionally at meetings.

  • Meets hospital/departmental productivity standards.

Qualifications

  • Pediatric or physical disability experience preferred.  Will consider new graduate.

Education, Licensure, and Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Program.
  • Current New York State Occupational Therapy License

Physical Requirements

  • Requires the ability to lift, carry and balance patients from light to heavy weight, and the need to visually and auditorially monitor patients’ status. 
  • Requires an ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing in the English language and use a computer.
  • Access to transportation to/from school sites/outsourcing contracts.
