Overview

 

Under the supervision of the Director of Occupational Therapy, the Assistant Director mnages the daily clinical and operational activities of the Occupational Therapy Department, including scheduling, shift coverage, work assignments, and payroll preparation. The Assistant Director supervises the staff occupational therapists and therapy aides, as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the daily clinical and operational activities of the Occupational Therapy Department, including scheduling, shift coverage, work assignments, and payroll preparation.
  • Supervises the staff occupational therapists and therapy aides, as needed.
  • Develops, and administers education and competency programs for the Department, including student training programs.
  • Provides independent occupational therapy services through the evaluation and treatment of functional and developmental skills to achieve maximal physical and cognitive functioning of the patient in their daily life tasks and as part of their total medical care.
  • Conducts education and training of patients, families, and related disciplines.
  • Assists in the measurement of clinical and other performance-related outcomes.
  • Supports the department's quality and safety initiatives and regulatory readiness activities.

Qualifications

  • Eight years of experience as an occupational therapist in a relevant setting, including five years of experience caring for a pediatric population.
  • Minimum of three years of experience as a supervisor of other therapists.
  • New York State occupational therapy license and registration.

Education, Licensure, and Certification

  • Master's degree required.
  • Graduate of an accredited occupational therapy program.

Physical Requirements

  • Requires the ability to lift, carry and balance patients from light to heavy weight, and the need to visually and auditorially monitor patients’ status.
  • Requires an ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing in the English language and use a computer.
